ACTION PLAN 2008

Helping selected young entrepreneurs start their business
in 2008 we will continuing our initiative to mentor selected entrepreneurs and help them start their business. This initiative will consist of an advertising campaign through our website, mailing and our presence at Forward (from April 17 to 20) inviting entrepreneurs to send their ideas and business plans to Bader. One of Bader members will then work closely with a selected candidate until they manage to launch the activity. This initiative will be repeated on a quarterly basis and will cover the following four sectors: fashion, technology, industry and design.

Supporting universities in promoting entrepreneurs
The Members-on-campus initiative aims at supporting academic programs in entrepreneurship. Hosted by faculties and entrepreneurship clubs, Bader members will be invited to share their experience with students on themes such as risk taking, innovation, failure lessons, and success stories, all in live testimony with focus on opportunities in Lebanon.

Road Shows to Universities
In view of creating awareness about Entrepreneurship in Lebanon among college students, we will be carrying presentations at a large number of Lebanese universities to introduce Bader’s objectives and scope of work. We will also be recruiting volunteers to assist the Bader staff in planning, organizing, and executing some of our projects and initiatives (road shows, workshops, conferences, etc…)

FORWARD 2008
For the first time, Bader will be present at Forward, BIEL, from April 17 to 20. Entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to take part in Bader Counseling Sessions, apply to Bader Mentorship Program and Volunteer Program, discuss with an “entrepreneur in the making”, as well as to attend a conference on how to create a successful enterprise.

Starting the second cycle of the MIT Arab Business Plan Competition
A very efficient way to disseminate entrepreneurship spirit and education is to broadcast a business plan competition. Based on this assessment, Bader has initiated the first MIT Arab Business Plan Competition. The MIT business plan competition in the US, called the MIT $100K competition is an institution in Boston where it provides every year a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs to learn how to write a convincing business plan, work as a team and convince potential investors. It has created a number of leading firms and thousands of jobs.
The Lebanese chapter of the MIT alumni association together with Bader and LBCI, has launched in November 2006 a pan-Arab competition with the 4 last rounds of the competition broadcasted on LBC sat (www.mitarabcompetition.com). The MIT Business Plan Competition in the Arab World is the first of its kind in the Arab region. It is designed to encourage all entrepreneurs in the region to start their own company and ultimately create a nest of leading firms in the Arab world. It is open to all Arabs, of all ages. It brings to the Arab world all the MIT expertise in entrepreneurship and in running such competitions.

After completing the first cycle where we received 1,652 applications (a record), we will start a new cycle in the Third Quarter of 2008.

Creating a global network of young Lebanese business leaders
Tapping into the network of Lebanese executives abroad will help Bader better achieve its objectives. By inviting up to 40 young business leaders from various countries and industries to join the network, Bader members will have new dialogue partners to exchange ideas and join forces, and give young business leaders of Lebanon and the Diaspora a platform to get together on issues they care about and on particular projects they wish to support. This initiative will include a yearly gathering to bring together Lebanese executives and to identify new initiatives and project leaders in fields such as business and finance, creative industries, and media and communication. On August 5 2008, we will be organizing a 1-day seminar with global experts in the field of entrepreneurship.
