MIT Enterprise Forum of the Pan Arab Region

Launches its Business Plan Competition for 2009-2010

Overview

Launched in Beirut, where a strong and active alumni community is concentrated, the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Pan Arab Region is the 6th International Chapter and the first one in the Arab world.

The MIT Enterprise Forum (MIT EF) of the Pan Arab Region aims at furthering economic and technological growth and competitiveness in all of the Arab countries covering North Africa, and the Middle East. Its main objective is to develop and nurture a culture of entrepreneurship by providing the necessary opportunities to entrepreneurs to learn, hone their skills, network with all relevant business constituencies, and interact with the global entrepreneurship culture.

The MIT EF of the Pan Arab Region organizes and manages a set of activities targeted at achieving its objectives. Part of those is the MIT Arab Business Plan Competition.

The first of its kind in the Arab world, designed to encourage all entrepreneurs in the region to start their companies and, ultimately, create a nest of leading firms in the Arab world. The Competition has been running since 2006 and for the 3rd time this year, and it has involved more than 8000 entrepreneurs from 17 Arab countries (till October 2009).

The top 30 semi- finalists were selected and the names of the teams are now out. You can check the details on our website: www.mitarabcompetition.com

These top 30 projects are from the following countries: fourteen from Egypt, six from Lebanon, two from Tunisia, two from the United Arab Emirates, two from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and one from each of Palestine, Yemen, Morocco and Jordan.

These 30 teams will be invited to take part in a workshop to be presided by Prof. Ken Morse. The workshop is for 2 days and will take place in Beirut on March 21-22, 2010. It aims at supporting the 30 teams to finalize their business plans, which are due to be submitted by April 14. Based on these plans, 9 winning teams will be chosen to make oral presentations in Cairo on June 17, 2010.
